The hospital in Brunssum, a long history

When you talk about ‘the hospital’ in Brunssum, many people will remember the Saint Gregorius hospital at Kochstraat with a hint of nostalgia. The hospital provided medical care from 1961 to 2016, more than 55 years, to Brunssum and far beyond. When the Saint Gregorius hospital closed its doors in 2016, the new state-of-the-art medical centre at the roundabout at Prins Hendriklaan 376, more or less simultaneously welcomed its first patient.

Link to the past

Medical centre Mijn is certainly state-of-the-art, but holds local history in high regard at the same time. The building’s architect, Roel Graven, designed a table which is based on the 2nd floor with references to the history of the former Saint Gregorius hospital in Brunssum and its characteristic mosaic artwork that decorated the entrance hall there. Thanks to the support of several parties, a piece of history of the hospital in Brunssum has been preserved and justice is done to the work of local glass artist Frans Deumes. The table also provides background information.

Around the corner

What is great about Zuyderland Brunssum is its short waiting lists and, not to forget, the free parking. It is a lot quieter than  the far bigger hospital of Zuyderland Heerlen, where all the specialist care is located. In the fifteen outpatients’ departments in Brunssum patients are seen on their first and all check-up appointments. Minor surgery is also carried out in Brunssum.

In the summer of 2023, Zuyderland Brunssum is testing a ‘Digital Reception’. The aim is to provide patients and employees with an improved experience upon entering this location. This digital kiosk enables visitors to contact someone at the Customer Contact Center or to ask a question and receive a written answer on the screen.Very convenient!
